Week Five Question
Question: Elliott, I was looking at pictures from your NASCAR racing career so far and noticed a recurring theme on your helmets. The theme is that there is always an arrow painted on your helmet. Even back when you raced for the Wood Brothers and the Air Force the fighter jet could be considered the "arrow". Just wondering what the story is behind the recurring theme? -- submitted by Erik from Palmerton, PA
Answer: You know, I don't think I've ever actually been asked that question by a fan. Yes, I've always had arrows on my helmets all of the way back to when I was a kid. The arrow symbolizes, "I'm going to the front". That's why the arrow goes from the back of the helmet toward the front visor. Drivers don't have a lot of say in the look of the car or firesuit but they usually give us some input on the helmet. So, I've always asked for the arrow and thankfully I've always been able to run it.
