Week Fifteen Question
Question:
Elliott, What did you think of the Atlanta track schedule - it being a two day
show instead of three?
-- submitted by Rebecca from Austin, TX
Answer:
Well there's one thing I didn't like about it. We weren't able to film Trackside
because there was no on track activity. So, if more tracks go to that then we'll
definitely want to get our heads together on how to make that work.
Other than that, I loved it. I think fans responded well to it, too. The crowd
on Sunday night was huge. There was a lot going on for race fans on Saturday,
too. We had Nationwide practices, Cup practice sessions, Nationwide qualifying
and Cup qualifying and Friday night the Nationwide race. If you're a race fan
that's an awesome day.
And, all of the fans were off work, for the most part, so they could tune in as
much as they wanted on TV or if they were close by come out to the track to
enjoy it. We weren't competing with everyone's work schedule like we often do on
a Friday.
Teams should have been able to save a little money as well on travel and as we
all know that's a very good thing. When you look at less nights at a hotel, less
nights to use rental cars and less per diem that can add up very quickly.
Flights are gonna be the same so it doesn't matter what days you go and come
when you're looking at teams with private planes and charters. But when you're
on the road 2 days instead of 4 it cuts the travel expenses in half for the team
owners.
I thought it was great and it would be interesting to see what the fans thought
it --the fans in attendance and the fans at home watching on TV and listening on
the radio.
