Week One Question
Question: How do you think NASCAR’s ban of testing at NASCAR sanctioned tracks will affect your team's ability to make improvements vs the teams who made the chase in 2008? submitted by Robin from Charlotte, NC
Answer: The new testing procedure is new to all of us. Its, from what I can tell, intended to create a level playing field for teams. It should reduce cost over time. It puts a lot of pressure on R&D and engineering to come up with the new, fastest thing!
This is my 11th season and it’s my first with such restrictions. Obviously there were several teams that were the team to beat last year. This is a new year and we'll have to see if they have an advantage going into this season.
We usually see a few teams excel coming into a new season when we go to Daytona, Fontana and Las Vegas to test. This year we don't know who has a bag of tricks.
Our guys have worked hard and I'm hoping we're gonna win a race in Daytona and be the team that gets out of the box fast! Every team has tested a lot at non sanctioned tracks. The question is, how valuable is that data?
The real answer. Stand by.
