SADLER
DOVER RACE PREVIEW
STATESVILLE, N.C. - Elliott Sadler, driver of the No. 19 Stanley Dodge,
circles the trip to Dover on his schedule every season. The 34-year old
Emporia, Va. native takes a personal interest in the Autism Speaks 400
because it supports a cause close to his heart. Sadler's niece, Halie
Dru, was diagnosed with autism at age 2 and now Sadler, through the work
of the Hermie and Elliott Sadler Foundation (www.sadlerfoundation.org)
spend a great deal of time and energy each season raising money and
awareness for autism related charities.
Sadler Quotes
ON
THE AUTISM SPEAKS 400 AT DOVER: "This has become such a big weekend for
the No. 19 team over the last few years. Everyone on my team knows how
important autism awareness is to me and my family, ever since my niece
Halie Dru was diagnosed with autism at age 2, that we always try to do
as much as we can to help the folks at Dover promote this race and the
cause. I think it's amazing that a racetrack has taken the name to its
race and is now using it to help promote awareness for a good cause. I
think that's awesome! I wish more tracks would get behind programs like
this. I know that racetracks use their race naming rights as a source of
revenue to help the racetrack make money, but it seems like the folks at
Dover have found a way to get the best of both worlds by choosing a
cause and finding corporate partners that support the cause to serve as
presenting sponsors."
ON DOVER: "Richard Petty Motorsports and especially this No. 19 team is
really in need of a good race. We started to hit our stride late in the
Coca-Cola 600 and began to make up ground, but as luck would have it,
once we started passing cars and running fast laps the race was red
flagged for rain. That's really frustrating. I know this team is working
their hardest each and every week to get better and faster, and we are
finally starting to see the fruits of that labor at the racetrack. Now
we just have to put it all together at one time and I have a feeling we
can be running right up there at the front. I know we are capable. I
hope this weekend is the weekend where it all comes into focus and we
can put on a great show for the fans."
